The Bloody Elbow team has made its forecasts for UFC 234, and it’s a clean sweep for Robert Whittaker to defend his middleweight title by beating Kelvin Gastelum, whilst everyone is backing Israel Adesanya over Anderson Silva from the co-main occasion. In other words, congrats to Gastelum and Silva in their wins on Saturday.

Robert Whittaker vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Anton Tabuena: 2 former welterweights fighting for the middleweight belt. Will this convince people that intense weight cutting really isn’t worth the trade off in performance? Likely not, but this ought to be an entertaining bout either way at least. I think this will be closer than what the chances say, but I think Whittaker is just slightly better just about everywhere, so he must take this. Robert Whittaker by decision.
Mookie Alexander: Gastelum has a chance . He has strong hands, insane strength — not Whittaker’s durability is to be scoffed at by any means — and superb cardio. However, he is not going to be able to take Whittaker down (or at least hold him ), and Whittaker has far more depth to his attacking striking. His leg kicks specifically can slow Gastelum down, and now I believe he dismisses angles and combines his strike choice and goals more efficiently than Kelvin. It’ll be a close battle through the opening few rounds however Whittaker will come on strong at the later rounds and get the win. Robert Whittaker by unanimous decision.
